An early breakfast for a long and exciting overland journey to Timang at Manang. The drive heads west beyond Kathmandu valley, and then on winding downhill following the country’s busy highway for some hours. The drive then diverts from the Mugling Bazaar heading due west on the Kathmandu/Pokhara Highway at Dumre Town. From here, the road enters the Lamjung district at Bhesishar through farm villages and towns. The drive follows the Masrsyangdi River to Syange and then climbs towards cooler hills. The road gets quite bumpy and rough in a few sections till you reach Tal Besi and Dharapani Villages. The entrance to Manang district, from here, the climate gets cooler.

The houses and people differ as you enter the Buddhist highland country, with grand views of the Annapurna, Lamjung, and Manaslu Himalayas. Slowly, the rough dirt country road reaches Timang for an overnight halt in the comfort of a simple and nice lodge. Timang Village is at 2,620 meters (8,600 feet). From Timang, enjoy the stunning views of the Annapurna and Manaslu mountain ranges.

From Timang, the morning drive follows a forested trail to Kodo village and reaches Chame, the district headquarters of Manang. The drive leads across a bridge over the Masrsyangdi River and then climbs up to a hilltop at Dukure Pokhari, with few lodges and shops.

A nice spot with views of majestic Pisang Peak, from here heading down to a flat valley. Slowly, the drive reaches Pisang village for a short rest, from lower Pisang, leaving the Annapurna Circuit trail. An hour or less hike to upper Pisang for an overnight halt in the comfort of a nice, simple lodge. From Upper Pisang, stunning views of Pisang Peak and Chulu’s, including the Annapurna Himalayan range.

After a pleasant overnight at Upper Pisang Village with glorious views of the Annapurna Himalayas, with Pisang and Chulu’s peaks. From Upper Pisang, a good way to enjoy a walk away from the main motorable road. An opportunity for scenic views of the Annapurna Himalaya, Pisang is the start of the Manang Valley.

The walk heads down to Lower Pisang, then drives towards the main Manang Village. The dirt road follows up and down to Hongde, a village with a small airstrip, then reaches Braga. Located close en route to the main Manang village for an overnight stop. At Braga, for a short tour of the old Braga Monastery, enriched with old relics. A short climb to the monastery interior and witness idols of the famous saints and gurus. From the monastery, enjoy the grand panorama of Annapurna and the Chulu Himal ranges.

After an interesting tour of the monastery, down to the main trail, for a short drive to Manang. The main village of Upper Manang is adorned with typical Tibetan-style houses, with an excellent lodge and restaurant. At Manang, enjoy a free day for acclimatization and take a hike to the Gangapurna Himal Icefall. The walk leads down to the Masrsyangdi River, crossing the bridge, and a short climb to the top of a high ridge.

The drive heads east at the end of Manang Valley at Pisang with a short uphill and then heading towards Chame.

At Chame Town a short refreshing stop and then carry on driving to Timang, Dharapani and Tal Besi. The end of Manang District and enter Lamjung district as the road follows past Chamje and Jagat Village. As the road descends to Syange following the Masrsyangdi River downstream to Bhesishar Town for last overnight. At Bhesishar, in the afternoon, you are free to explore the town of great cultural interest of the Gurung tribe’s traditional heritage.

Due to freezing temperatures from Timang village onward, using hot showers is at an extra cost.  All lodges have electricity to light the large dining room, powered by local hydro or solar power. Internet and Wi-Fi are available, but it is slow and unreliable in some places due to weather conditions.    In a large group with more than 6 people, it is best to order a set meal for all.
